is England's largest community led festival of history and culture, involving thousands of local volunteers and organisations. Every year in September it brings people together to celebrate their heritage, community and history. Stories are told, traditions explored, and histories brought to life. It’s your chance to see hidden places and try out new experiences – and it’s all FREE.

Eye Market Town Heritage Open Days
Eye is steeped in history and dates back to Saxon times when the area was used as a burial ground. The name Eye derives from the old English word meaning Island,land by water.It is thought that the first settlement on the site was almost surrounded by water and marshland formed by the river Dove and its tributaries. With over one hundred listed buildings and a Castle the Market Town has so much to offer visitors to the Eye Heritage Open Days in September.
The Eye Town Council support Heritage Days and open buildings for the event. It is a community event that is also supported by local businesses and residents who look forward to your visit this September.

Theme: Routes - Connections - Networks
In 2024 we will be celebrating how people and ideas have moved around and come together throughout history. The transport routes, communication networks, trade unions and social clubs. The travellers who have spread ideas and the hosts who welcome them. There are so many stories on our doorsteps just waiting to be uncovered.
Groups, Organisations and Schools
Routes - Connections - Networks is the theme for Eye Heritage Open Days this year. We are actively looking for groups, organisation or Schools to join with us for this prestigious annual event. If your group has links with Routes, Connections or Networks please contact us to talk more. You could be included in our pop up museum or host an event to promote your activities.
